PBC

Prescott Brewing Company (PBC) was established in 1994, but the original building was an old saloon called Drawn West. PBC is nationally known and recognized beer. The sign on the outside of the building looks similar in color to the Beaver Street Brewery logo. I contacted PBC, but didn’t hear back from them, but the two companies are similar and they both opened in 1994, so I was interested as to whether or not the companies were owned by the same people.

The building has been added on to as you can see in the photograph below. The original building as tall skinny doors that resemble second empire style during the Victorian Era. The building has a simple entablature that goes around the roof of the building. This style comes from the classical period of roman architecture diffusing into the United States through Jefferson’s inspiration of Romanesque architecture. The newer part of the building represents Art Deco style with a smooth machine oriented façade being very vertical oriented. The windows however are more Art modern style with the slight arch at the top of the two pane windows.

As you go inside the building it is a three story indoor shopping center full of boutiques and trinket shops. The restaurant and brewery extends into the newer portion of the building, but is mostly located in the older half. The use of this building seemed unique, because it’s not large enough to be considered a mall. In chapter 19 Conzen would consider the style to be an “early enclosed shopping mall,” but it doesn’t have any major department stores.

The doors leading into the Brewery from the inside seemed to have a Palladio feel, but they lacked the arch. Below I have posted a picture of a Palladio window and the brewery’s door.
